Well@Work Project

Jo Callender worked in the corporate world of retail management for many years, where her final role was the NSW Business Development manager for the Body Shop.

Her career change came about from a long held interest in the function and management of the body under stress.  During her 10 years in the health industry she has gained considerable education and insight into helping people achieve balance and positive change in their lives, where their physical and emotional stress was becoming detrimental to their health.

The most commonly noted effects in meeting the demands of work and family are reflected in the physical manifestation of pain – notably back and neck. In largely sedentary jobs physical functions are often reduced to a limited range of movement which is causes tension and pain in the muscular skeletal system.  It is not only these physical detriments which are occurring but our emotional health is under stress too in our efforts to meet work and family expectations.

Jo’s observations of the difficulty people have in making and then attending external appointments to relieve their stress has led her to develop the Well@Work project.

Bringing remedial work such as Stretch Therapy, Massage Therapy, Holistic Kinesiology and myofascial dry needling to the work place will give people the opportunity to counteract physical demands, relieve emotional stress and bring balance into their lives without leaving the work place.

Available Therapies:

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can provide instant and blissful relief for tight, sore muscles. A firm to deep pressure is applied and includes trigger point therapy. Mobility and flexibility is increased, inflammation is reduced as toxins are depleted, & the stimulation of natural endorphins gives a deep sense of euphoria throughout the body.

Dry Needling

Dry needling can be applied on its own or used to augment massage to give a superior result.  Acupuncture needles are use to release the trigger point (the very sore part when touched) in the muscle, and the body’s natural opiates. It is one of the most effective and natural form of pain management.

Stretch Therapy

Posture and flexibility (P&F) and Stretch therapy developed by Kit Lauglin (www.kitlaughlin.com) introduces a refined and modern technique of stretching which helps overcome neck and back pain by relieving excess tension. Jo has studied with Kit and will develop a progressive series of exercises, strengthening as well as stretch, to suit each individual.

Neurostructural integration technique (NST)

NST is a world leading practice in structural and spinal therapy for lasting pain removal and rejuvenation.  The technique initiates a process of natural auto-regulation to occur in the spinal column & consequently throughout the whole body.  The effect is a rapid elimination or reduction of symptoms, followed by an increase in energy and an unmistakeable sense of well-being. The technique is gentle yet dynamic & as it promotes natural auto-regulation can be applied to an extensive range of conditions and age groups.

Holistic Kinesiology

Kinesiology is about body movement and stress release. It is a technique which allows the practitioner to ascertain exactly where stress is located in the body and how to transform that stress. The focus is on the energetic aspect of the body; the acupuncture system.  It also attends to the response of how we think or feel in a stressful situation; or how our belief systems or attitudes may impact on us in a negative way.  Once identified then a correction procedure is applied; it could include acupressure, homeopathic, or Bach flower remedies or perhaps colour and light – all treatments which effectively reduce or eliminate stress within the body.
